In 1992 in Canada, all levels of government spent $2,500 per capita on education (in 2009 dollars) - 4.4% more than we spent on health care. However, ongoing federal and provincial deficits since 1971 changed the course of our public spending patterns and by 1998, governments in Canada were spending more on healthcare than education.
