Canada’s Global Leaders

The Institute for Competitiveness & Prosperity assesses the global competitiveness of hundreds of Canadian companies and determines which of these firms are global leaders in their industries.

Criteria for inclusion:

  1. Public or private Canadian controlled company on the Report on Business Top 1000 or Financial Post 500 lists
  2. Revenues exceeding $100 million (constant 2008 dollars)
  3. One of the five largest by revenue globally in a specific market segment – in some cases where global competition is precluded (e.g. rail service and CN Rail), North America is used; in other cases we follow industry practice in using other measures (e.g., market capitalization and Manulife)

Researchers at the Institute for Competitiveness & Prosperity rely on public filings or interviews with Investor Relations staff to determine global leadership status.
