About the Task Force
The Task Force on Competitiveness, Productivity and Economic progress is independent from the government and reports directly to the public. Its members volunteer their time and expertise to investigate Ontario’s competitiveness.
The Task Force is led by Roger L. Martin, an expert in competitiveness and the Dean of the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Members of the Task Force are leaders in their fields of business and research.
What We Do
The Task Force on Competitiveness, Productivity and Economic progress is an independent task force that reports directly to the public. Its mandate is to measure and monitor Ontario’s productivity, competitiveness and economic progress compared to other provinces and the U.S. states and to report to the public on a regular basis. Its specific goals are to:
- Create a framework to assess Ontario’s productivity, competitiveness, and economic progress compared with the other 9 provinces and the 50 U.S. states;
- Spearhead the identification and undertake measurement of Ontario’s productivity, competitiveness and economic progress indicators compared with the other 9 provinces and the 50 U.S. states;
- Confer with the public/stakeholders and experts on the best way to benchmark Ontario’s productivity, competitiveness and economic progress;
- Educate and build awareness of productivity, competitiveness and economic progress indicators for Ontario;
- Encourage “regional” exercises that will raise awareness about Ontario’s productivity, competitiveness and economic progress;
- Identify barriers to enhancing Ontario’s productivity, competitiveness and economic progress. The Task Force may make recommendations or suggestions for action by governments, the private sector, and others to ensure Ontario’s economic growth and prosperity, and,
- Produce annual public reports on Ontario’s productivity, competitiveness and economic progress indicators and the measurement results in comparison with the other 9 provinces and the 50 U.S. states. Reports could also include the development of interim and special reports, as appropriate.
